…Because What’s On The Internet
Even Grosses Out the HOOKERS!!!

Mom covering eyes of child at laptop

That’s the answer to the questions:

“Why should I install parental controls and filters?
How bad can it be?”

When I talk about what I do, helping parents keep kids outta pornography on the Internet, I often get the following responses:

“C’mon, we had porn in our day, and it didn’t hurt us!”
“Aren’t you being a little too protective?”

Now, propriety and Christian concern for not tempting you prevents me from listing the bad, bad, BAD things that are out there. So, here’s an alternative method to convince you how bad the porn on the Internet can be.

“Safe Sex” Is Not Proven – The Scientific Truth!

NIHOur kids are being fed a cultural lie:

If you have sex outside of marriage, and you use a condom, you are safe and protected from pregnancy and from STDs.

Unfortunately, scientific evidence does not indicate you are safe or “protected” if you use a condom.  It only states that the risk of pregnancy and/or infection by an STD is REDUCED.  This is from the National Institutes of Health.

Having a false belief in the effectiveness of “protection” is dangerous.  And, as we all well know, young people will interpret anything and everything to their advantage, so they won’t hear the true story!

SEX: What Was God THINKING???!!!
Part V – Sex & The Gospels: Marriage

NOTE:
This post deals frankly but respectfully with issues regarding sexuality
& God’s design for humanity.  If this makes you uncomfortable,
please consider that we are discussing GOD’S DESIGN.

Part 5 of the multi-part series:SEX: What was God THINKING???!!!

Before reading this blog you might want to read my other post about viewing GOD AS DESIGNER.

Earlier in this series we looked at what we could learn about God’s intent for sexuality from God’s Design, and from the Old Testament.  Now it is time to turn to the New Testament and, in particular, the Gospels.  There are things to learn there!

Let’s start with Jesus’ first miracle.

SEXTING!
What’s The Big Deal??? Part I UPDATED

PART I of a 2-part series on SEXTING
PART I discusses legal issues
PART II will discuss moral and developmental issues

Updated: 2024

Sexting_1I got a call from a parent who had discovered that one of their son’s female friends had sent a picture of herself partially clothed.  They were extremely upset (for good reason) but they were also very worried about the fact that the phone could potentially hold “child pornography”.  They were conscientious parents who stumbled across the image while checking up on family cell usage via their provider’s web account.

This was just a few weeks after a local middle school had experienced a “sexting scandal”.

What is going on, and why is “SEXTING” such a big deal?

Well, dating has CHANGED since my day.  ‘Way back then, girls didn’t even want to be seen kissing in public, except maybe a quick kiss (1970’s, Deep South… California was different, I hear!).

But those are days long gone by….

Part 4 of a multi-part series:SEX: What was God THINKING???!!!

Before reading this blog you might want to read my other post about viewing GOD AS DESIGNER.bible_ring_1

There have been hundreds of books that take apart the SONG OF SOLOMON, also called the CANTICLES, and try to reassemble it so we can understand it.  I’m not  doing that, today.  Instead, I want us to take a summary look at God’s book on married love and pick up a few pointers from it.

Part 3 of a 5-Part series:SEX: What was God THINKING???!!!

Before reading this blog you might want to read my other post about viewing GOD AS DESIGNER.

So far in 0ur examination of what God was thinking when He designed Humanity to be a bi-gendered we’ve looked at elements of His overall design, how they fit together as a system, and how that system worked before sin.

The problem is, we all live in a world that contains sin, and we exist as creatures with a sin nature.  In the area of sex/sexuality, it is a very STRONG sin nature!

Part 2 of a multi-part series:SEX: What was God THINKING???!!!

Before reading this blog you might want to read my other post about viewing GOD AS DESIGNER.

As I grew up there were many “messages” that the Deep South Culture transmitted.  Mostly they implied that sex was “dirty” and “unspeakable”.  (This was in the 1960s and 1970s.)

Today, in 21st Century America, the messages seem to be quite different.  Sex is definitely not “unspeakable” and while “dirty” is not used a lot there seems to be a “dark side” where sex is supposed to abide.  Everyone is supposed to be a great lover and have mind-blowing, athletic sex.  Everyone is supposed to “go for the gusto!”

Well, we’re batting .500, I guess.

ring_on_bible_clip_artWith all the problems that couples/singles and Society have, as a whole, due to sex and sexuality, we might wonder:

What was God THINKING
when He came up with the idea of sex/sexuality?

I really don’t think that God just slapped the Universe and Humanity together.  Everything, every “design element”, was carefully and “artfully” considered by God and was then created.

So, what’s the deal with sex?  What could God have been thinking? It seems to cause a lot of problems!!!!

Why “Making Out” Is Like A Beer Party!

I once overheard a Navy pilot buddy of mine trying to explain to a civilian who rarely even flew what it felt like to take a “cat shot” off of the front end of an aircraft carrier.  I could tell that he was frustrated.  When he finished he walked over to me and said:

It’s like trying to explain sex to a virgin!

And….that is one of our challenges when we talk to our children about sexuality, especially when we talk about how you can get all hot and bothered when you make out and can really “go stupid” (as I told my kids).

Sex is pretty esoteric for those who haven’t experienced a lot of making out and intimacy.  Still, we (as parents) have to instill in them a healthy respect for the dangers and equip them to avoid mistakes.

So, how DO you explain the intensifying hazards of sexual passion to a virgin?

BASEBALL and BEER!!!

Sex Education . . . & the “Nintendo Method”

parents_w_upset_teen_girlLet’s face it.

To your average teenager their parents are:

  • Uncool
  • Not with it
  • Mean, and (let’s face it)
  • Idiots.

Their friends, however, are:

  • Cool
  • Knowledgeable
  • With it
  • Smart

So, how do we, as parents, get our kids to listen to us on important topics, especially those related to sex and sexuality?

One way is an approach that I call “The Nintendo Method“.
