Sex, SPOUSES, and the Internet –
Part 5: Hookin’ Up!

Sex, SPOUSES, and the Internet – Part 4: Cyber-Sex…And ADULTERY

A recent article recommended by a friend on LinkedIn talked about how “anonymous sex” is expanding among the heterosexual community.  Such has long been a part of the homosexual culture but technology is dragging the heterosexual community into such behavior.

What is “anonymous sex”? It is exactly what it sounds like: Hooking up for the purpose of having sex with a person who is, essentially, a complete stranger.

Why is this growing among straight folk? Two words: THE INTERNET!

Marriage, Sex, & The Pistachio Principle!

Adultery is a BIG DEAL!  While our Society may seem to be getting blasé about it, God’s standards haven’t “mellowed with time”.  As a matter of fact, the injunction against adultery in the Ten Commandments comes between the injunctions against murder and theft!

With all this neat, new technology flying around I’ve noticed people (and to an extent, Society) have been redefining adultery.  For instance, the following may not be adultery (in many minds, today):

Marriage, Sex, & The Pistachio Principle!

Back when I was cruising in Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club (aka the U.S. Navy) we were always eager for the cargo plane, called the COD, to arrive because … They might have MAIL!!!  This was back when letters took 4-6 weeks for mail to go from the States to wherever we were out making holes in the ocean!

Now, it is a fact that some letters between couples were hot enough to deserve asbestos envelopes!  And, sometimes, you might not get just a letter but a sexy picture, or even a hot cassette tape! (Yep, I’m THAT old!!!)

Today, married couples who are separated for long periods of time have more options than just writing love letters to express their affections and desires.  Computers and the Internet have added many new options.

The question is: What is OK, not OK, and in between? What are the risks?

Sex, SPOUSES, and the Internet –
Part 1: SEXTING

We all know how the Internet and other new communications technologies are impacting the lives of kids.  Whether it is online pornography, sexting with peers, or predators, the culture that our children exist in has expanded with new dangers that parents have to keep up with.

But, what about the impact on Mom and Dad?  We would be naive if we thought that parents and their moralities were not being affected by all these new capabilities.  We’d be more naive if we didn’t consider how Satan is using these technologies against the family!

Of course, not all of the impact of technology has been negative.  Far from it!!!

So, as I start this new series, let’s look at the potential GOOD side of: Sex, SPOUSES, and the Internet!

Living Pure In An Impure World: Defense

DEFENSE…

NBC 1In football it means preventing the other team from scoring and getting the ball back.  Same in many other sports, and in many non-sport endeavors.

But, when I think of “defense” in terms of the moral impurities in this world I don’t think of sports.  I think of THE COLD WAR.

Staying Pure In An Impure World:
The Danger of “Impurity”!!!

NOTE:
This post deals frankly but respectfully with issues regarding sexuality
& God’s standard for humanity.  If this makes you uncomfortable,
please consider that we are discussing GOD’S DESIGN.

Weed_pullingImpure.  Impurity.

We all know we are sinful.  So, when we talk about impurity we often just chalk it up to not being “sinless”?  If we’re not yet sinless, I guess we have to tolerate a “little sin” mixed in with our piety.  So, a little impurity, even sexual impurity, is inevitable and should not be feared.  Right?

WRONG!

Staying Pure In An Impure World:
What Is Purity?

NOTE:
This post deals frankly but respectfully with issues regarding sexuality
& God’s standard for humanity.  If this makes you uncomfortable,
please consider that we are discussing GOD’S DESIGN.

Couple Hex 1“Keep your wits about you.”

That’s what my dad said whenever I went out on dates, ‘WAY back when I was in high school.  He said that to remind me to stay pure in God’s eyes.

Today we see purity rings, purity pledges, and more.  Within the Church, purity is an important subject that needs discussion.

But, in our society, before we can discuss a subject, we have to define it. Today’s language is far too slippery.

That includes “purity”.

…Because What’s On The Internet
Even Grosses Out the HOOKERS!!!

Mom covering eyes of child at laptop

That’s the answer to the questions:

“Why should I install parental controls and filters?
How bad can it be?”

When I talk about what I do, helping parents keep kids outta pornography on the Internet, I often get the following responses:

“C’mon, we had porn in our day, and it didn’t hurt us!”
“Aren’t you being a little too protective?”

Now, propriety and Christian concern for not tempting you prevents me from listing the bad, bad, BAD things that are out there. So, here’s an alternative method to convince you how bad the porn on the Internet can be.

“Safe Sex” Is Not Proven – The Scientific Truth!

NIHOur kids are being fed a cultural lie:

If you have sex outside of marriage, and you use a condom, you are safe and protected from pregnancy and from STDs.

Unfortunately, scientific evidence does not indicate you are safe or “protected” if you use a condom.  It only states that the risk of pregnancy and/or infection by an STD is REDUCED.  This is from the National Institutes of Health.

Having a false belief in the effectiveness of “protection” is dangerous.  And, as we all well know, young people will interpret anything and everything to their advantage, so they won’t hear the true story!
