Newtown, Connecticut: WHY????
Because America Is In The Dark…

NOTE:  Please read this entire post.

20 Children Murdered…

8 Adults Dead…

A town in mourning….

A nation in shock…

And we ask: “WHY???”

I think we should know the answer…

The reaction after the terrible tragedy in Newtown, CT yesterday was what we often see when America suffers from Evil:

  • Prayer vigils are attended by hundreds.
  • Church services are packed to standing room only.
  • Signs arise calling for God to bless the families…and America.
  • People turn to God for comfort, solace, and answers.

That was Friday, 11 days before Christmas.

What about on Thursday, the day before?

  • We were afraid to say MERRY CHRISTMAS because it contains the name of God’s Son, whom He sent as a gift for us.
  • We banished Christmas plays, trees, and parties from our schools.
  • Politicians and educators cowered from an extreme minority who object to any reference to God in any part of public life, using our God-given freedoms as a twisted weapon AGAINST God’s people.
  • We said we would make our own “Right” and “Wrong”, and that God’s Word was antiquated and no longer relevant.
  • We abhorred the very idea that our actions might have consequences and that we might be held accountable for them by God or anyone else!
  • We idolized and were entertained by those who openly mocked God and derided His Word and His Children.
  • We asked the King of Kings to leave and as the Bible tells us: “all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes” (Judges 12:25 NLT).

Yes,we did all of this on Thursday….

But we returned to God on Friday.

God did not visit this evil upon us.  He did not “smite” in anger.  As a Nation we asked the Light to leave…and He did.

And so we are plunged into Darkness…and Evil such as this now surrounds us.

You see… Darkness and Evil are not substantive, measurable things. They are merely the absence of Light…and Love.

When we ask the Lord of Love to “leave us be”, to stop “trying to run our lives”, to stop being “old fashioned”, then He respects our wishes…and steps back.

That means we are left with Darkness…and Evil.

It is heartbreaking to see.  We’ve seen it in New York, Colorado, Virginia, Texas, and Connecticut.  We see it every day as our Nation sinks into greater and greater depravity.

Why were these children targeted?  Because Evil always abuses and attacks children…because God loves children.

The Bible teaches that “Children are a gift from the Lord” (Ps 27:3 NLT).  When Jesus spoke of how much He valued and loved children, He said to those who would harm them that:  “…it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matt 18:6 NLT)  God’s view, it seems, is pretty straightforward.

So, when Evil seeks to do the most damage,to hurt both God and us, it targets the children.

We all want to do something tangible to combat this tragedy.  As a Nation we want to root out the Evil that caused this to happen.

If we are to combat the Darkness, we must bring back the Light.

There is still cause for joy.  All is not lost, we are not beyond redemption.  Even in this Darkness there is Hope and Salvation.  Only in the Light of Christ can there be victory over Evil.

The Light stands near, and ready to return…at our request.

If we are serious in our desire to fight the Darkness and Evil that led to the tragic deaths of 8 adults and 20 precious children then there is one step we must take today, 10 days before Christmas:

Let the Light of Christ shine, and the Darkness will flee.

 Sole Deo Gloria!
